HORTATORY TEXT
Hortatory
text is a text that contains a reason to support an opinion that readers are
affected to do an act. It contains something in the hope that
readers may be affected to do things in a certain way. Hortatory
exposition is a type of spoken or written text that is intended to explain the listeners
or readers that something should or should not happen or be done.
Hortatory
exposition text can be found in scientific books, journals, magazines,
newspaper articles, academic speech or lectures, research report etc.
Hortatory
expositions are popular among science, academic community and educated people.
To
strengthen the explanation, the speaker or writer needs some arguments as the
fundamental reasons of the given idea. In other words, this kind of text can be
called as argumentation.
The main
purpose of this text is to persuade readers and hearers of a conversation or
reading that makes readers affected to do an act and not to do deeds or to
influence the reader or hearer that something the focus of the conversation
should or should not happen
In this
text there are 3 main structures namely:
1. Thesis (introduction of the main idea of a
discussion)
2. Argumentation (opinion)
3. Recommendation (invitation of the author to
perform a
deed yage related to thesis and argument
Characteristics
of text hortatory
1. using
simple present tense
2. every
paragraph contains an argument for something to
talk about.
3. every
paragraph is marked with the word of the temporal
conjunction (First, second,
...)
4. in
the paragraph there are several languages that
serve
as persuasion (Persuasive)
